Since the last time I wrote on this blog, summer has come and gone, George started kindergarten, I started a new job, George had his sixth birthday, and now it is almost Halloween! I'll try my best to write something about these big events for the few people who still check this blog, but especially for me because I love reading old blog entries and being reminded of small things I had forgotten.
George started kindergarten the last week of August, and he's really enjoying it. His elementary school is only 1.5 blocks away and it's a small school that is very focused on community. We feel very lucky that it's our neighborhood school. George's teacher's name is Ms. Emilie and it sounds like she's really good at what she does. I think she runs a tight ship, but I also think it's good for George to learn how important it is to listen and follow directions at school. I'm a little nervous for parent-teacher conferences because I know she'll say he's a handful at times (don't I know it), but I'm also eager to ask her questions about how he's doing academically since all we can get out of him is how much he likes the after-care program he goes to twice a week ;)
For George's 6th birthday last month, he wanted a Star Wars Lego theme, so that's what he got. It was super fun and everyone enjoyed the party. The kid-sized Darth Vader piñata was the hit of the party and took a LOT of effort to finally crack open.
Gus was devastated when poor Vader was decapitated.
George got a TON of Legos from friends and family, which is exactly what he wanted. He plays with them all everyday. This police station in the picture took three hours for us (me) to build on the morning of his birthday. When I picked it up to move it to another table, the center section came apart from the outside sections and the whole thing shattered on the dining room floor. We were both heartbroken and have since used Super Glue on all new Lego creations.

We have had a beautiful, warm October and the boys have been loving the extra month of playing outside in the 75-80 degree weather.
And last but not least, George has now lost three teeth: the bottom two have already been replaced by adult teeth, but he just lost this top one on Tuesday. It came out at the YMCA on a day off from school and the tooth got lost. We had to write the Tooth Fairy a note explaining that the teachers are still looking for it.
