One Month Old!

Since there is no February 31st, I had to count today as Gus' one month birthday. But he is officially 4 weeks old today, and we are loving him to pieces! Here's his one month photo, and some of the most important things we've learned about our sweet boy so far:

- Like all newborns, he loves being held and bounced around as much as possible. I love cuddling with him and I want to remember exactly how wonderful it feels to hold my sweet newborn baby. Some of his favorites are when we bounce on the exercise ball with him and being in the Moby Wrap, both put him to sleep immediately.

- He is the loudest eater ever. He slurps and gulps and squeaks so loud when he's eating, it is so funny!

- He has a very sweet, easy going personality so far. There are very few times during the day that he gets really upset or angry. Really we only hear him scream and cry hard when he's getting his diaper changed and when he first gets into his car seat. Of course he cries, but not too hard :)

- He isn't the world's best sleeper yet. He's usually up every 2-3 hours all night long still, but he just wants to eat, get a clean diaper, and he's back to sleep. Hopefully with my new diet, his tummy will let him sleep longer periods because a lot of times he wakes up when he has to poop and it's uncomfortable and difficult for him, poor guy.

- He looks less and less like George every day. He is beginning to look like himself more, although his is losing the hair on the top of his head exactly like George did at a month old.

- We adore him. I'm sad that a whole month has gone by already, but so excited that it went so well and that we get this adorable, sweet, cuddly little man as our son!Yesterday, Gus and I went up to Longmont to have brunch at Katy's with some current/former Swanson teachers and our babies. It was so great to see everyone and enjoy all the cuteness from this batch of babies!

Updates

We had a pretty eventful week around here. On Monday night, we noticed that Gus's dirty diaper had some blood in it. Of course it was 10:00 at night, so I had to call the after-hours nurse who instructed us to take him to Children's Hospital right away. So Sean stayed home with sleeping George and I took little Gus to the emergency room. It was a very busy night and we didn't talk to a doctor until 3:30 am - and I thought I was as exhausted as I could be before that night!

Anyway, after talking with the doctor, he said that it's probably a dairy allergy that's caused Gus's issues (there were a couple other things I should have noticed). So, now it's up to me to avoid all dairy and soy in my diet. Our own doctor told us that many kids with milk allergies also have soy allergies, so I should cut both out. Little did I know that these two ingredients are in so much of what I love! But we'll learn some new recipes and eat lots of fruit and vegetables around here and hope that Gus outgrows the allergy sometime soon. Here's a sweet picture of our quickly-growing boy...
The morning after our late-night ER trip, George woke up and Sean and I didn't hear him at all. When Sean woke up and went into the kitchen, this is what he saw...George had discovered the tub of Vaseline that I had left out when I had taken Gus's temperature the night before!

New Pics

Here's a group of pictures of nothing in particular. The boys and I survived our first week home alone with Sean back to work. I even brought both boys to Target to get milk and to the playground all by myself!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Katy loaned me a very cute little Valentine's Day outfit for Gus. Unfortunately, I had a very hard time trying to figure out how to get the baby, the toddler, and the heart on the butt in the same picture and make it cute. So here's what I got...So I switched to just red on baby Gus...Then I switched to just Gus. Maybe by the next holiday we'll have a better brother picture :) Our little Gus is two weeks old today. We had his 2 week appointment on Friday and he weighs 8 pounds even, which is the 36th percentile. Dr. Neil said it was great that he had passed his birth weight by so much - we think he's starting to fill out a bit more. How cute is our baby?! I'm a very lucky lady to have the three best Valentine's ever this year - I love you Sean, George, and Gus!

The Big Bro

We have had a really good week spending time all together at home. Sean's done a great job playing with George all day, and George loved having my sister and parents entertain him as well. This is George and Laura doing the "Cuckoo" part of The Sound of Music...

Yesterday, we went to the aquarium for the first time. This first picture is of a bridge that George found that was the perfect stage for him to perform his rendition of Do-Re-Mi over and over.

Today George did a little finger painting, and ended up looking like this!

Newborn Cuteness

Here are a few more pictures of our sweet baby Gus... he's already over a week old! Besides my occasional random crying for no apparent reason, things are going really well here. George has been so good for the most part. The hardest parts of the day seem to be when it's time to put George to sleep because he has no desire to go to bed at all, so it's a struggle for all of us. But when he's awake, he's having a wonderful time playing with Sean all day and being around our visitors. I'm already extremely nervous for Monday when Sean will go back to work and I'll have both boys on my own!
Gus seems to be a pretty easy-going baby for now (knock on wood). He hates having his diaper changed and getting dressed, but other than that he's a pretty content baby. Nursing is really the cure for anything right now, so he and I have gotten to spend most of our time snuggled together. Here are some cute pics of Gus - enjoy!

New Camera

Sean surprised me last week with a brand new fancy camera! It turns out Sean is very good at taking pictures and here are some of our boys... in no particular order :)

It's a Boy!!

We are so happy to announce the arrival of August Sean O'Reilly, our little Gus. Gus has immediately made us so happy and we are thrilled that he is here! We think he looks a lot like George, and we cannot wait to see the two of them grow up together.
Gus' birth came at the very beginning of an arctic front that brought below zero temperatures to Denver for 2 days in a row. On Monday morning, I had my regular doctor's appointment where I was determined to be dilated to 2 cm and the baby still very high so I thought we were still days, even a week away from meeting him/her. However, by lunchtime, I was feeling some contractions that were more uncomfortable than usual, but I thought they were more cramp-like after being checked that morning. By 3:00, I called Sean to tell him to head home just in case since it was starting to snow and the roads were looking to be in bad shape. My parents came over, I packed up our stuff, and we headed to the hospital about 5:30 or so.
Although the contractions were getting pretty painful, I was 100% fine in between so I wasn't convinced this was it. But by the time we got the hospital, I was dilated to 5 cm and admitted. By the time we got upstairs to a delivery room, I was 7 cm. Within about 10 minutes, my water broke and was I told that I could start pushing right then! It took about 3 pushes and out came our little Gus - my mom didn't even make it in time to see the delivery! We got to the hospital at 6:00 and he was born at 7:35 weighing 7 lbs, 6 oz, and 20 inches long. Sean and I were both in shock that it went so quickly and that he was a he!!


He was immediately placed on my chest and stayed there for over an hour. Once the nurses started to check him over and clean him up, they realized his blood sugar was low so he needed a bit of formula to get back to normal. Once he did that, he's been perfectly fine ever since.

Meeting his big bro, George. George seriously loves holding babies and was so excited to meet Gus. At one point, the pediatrician came in to do a check on Gus and Gus started screaming. Poor George got so upset and started crying himself, he loves his brother so much already!

I overestimated how big this baby would be, and Gus' clothes were enormous on him! My sister made him this sweet hat - it will fit him better very soon, I'm sure.
