George's Fun Day

Today George and I met our good friends from Swanson at the Apex center in Arvada for some play time. There were 5 of us there who all used to teach at Swanson together... look at all those kids! It was so much fun to see everyone. I hope we continue to get together often so the kids can have more and more fun together.
With James... After our playdate, we went to Chipotle for lunch where George sat in a restaurant high chair for the first time and loved it until his lack of a morning nap caught up with him and he just wanted to be with me and fall asleep.
On Thursday, we are leaving for Iowa for my cousin's wedding in Cedar Rapids. The three of us were going to drive but my parents are flying in on Thursday and we've decided to send George on the plane with them. We figure it may be less of a big deal for him to spend the day having fun with his family than stuck in a car seat for 12+ hours. Sean and I will drive all day and just meet him that night when we get to town. We'll be able to stop less without him and just get there quicker and not worry about how he's been stuck for so long in the back seat. The three of us will drive home together, though, on Monday. I'm so excited to see all of my family this weekend, it should be a blast!

I'd like to say congratulations to my oldest friend, Katie and her husband Mark, on the birth of their baby girl, Zoe Olivia Thomas!

March Blizzard

Yesterday we got about 8 inches of snow here in Denver, it was great! Of course, I didn't have to go to work or commute home or walk a half mile to the light rail station and wait in an elevator for the train like my sweet hubby :) I'm so glad this storm hit this week instead of next since we're driving to Iowa a week from today for my cousin's wedding. There's just no way we could have done it in this snow, so I'm very grateful.

In true Denver form, the sun is shining today and it won't be long until this snow is all gone. Here's G enjoying his first blizzard snow.

All the Numbers

We just got back from G's 6 month check-up and everything looks great! He weighs 18 lbs, 13 oz which is the 75th percentile, he's 28 inches long which is the 90th percentile, and his head is in the 60th percentile. Sean and I were both surprised that he's fallen out of the upper 90s for weight, we're so used to him being the chunk! Dr. Neil recommended that we start to do some baby-proofing around here very soon, it won't be long until George is cruising all over this house!

Swimming Lesson

Yesterday, George and I took our first parent/baby swim lesson at the rec center. The lesson only had four babies (2 with their dads) and we mostly just sang songs and got the babies used to being in the water. He also sat on the side and "jumped" in on the count of three. All the babies were very cute in their little swim suits! As you can see from the picture, this rec center has a great baby pool with slides and sprayers that I know will be fun when George gets older.
This afternoon George has his 6 month checkup so we'll let you know how he's doing again later. Two posts in one day... what a great day!

Our Little Sweet Potato

Yesterday George got to try a brand new food, homemade sweet potatoes! Kelly gave me a book for Christmas on making your own baby food and Katy had the food mill so I was all set. I was expecting a puckered up face or something hilarious, but instead our little chunk just ate and ate and didn't even react to the brand new flavor.

I cooked the whole sweet potato and pureed it, then froze it in an ice cube tray and now we have individual servings for his next meals. It was really easy and I'm excited to make different foods for G to try as well. He seems to be a big fan of eating so I think I'll stay busy!

One Cool Dude

Today George and I went down to Castle Rock with my mom to look around at the outlet mall with Rhonda and Luke. Not only did we get three pajamas for $5.00, but we also made another stop at the Emerson storage unit to pick up some more goodies for G. We picked up a couple more bins of clothes and some great new toys for G to play with.

Six Months Old!

It seems so hard to believe that baby G is six months old already! His "babyhood" is halfway over already, wow. Every time I pack up some clothes that he has grown out of, I feel a little sad that he isn't that small anymore. Before you know it, he'll be a little boy! Here are some important tidbits about our 6 month old boy:

• He can sit up pretty much on his own completely now. Once in a while, he'll fall over but pretty rarely. He now sees something in front of him that he wants and will lunge for it and tip over forwards, but that doesn't seem to bother him at all!


• The past week or so, he's been riding in shopping carts like a big kid! I tried it out one day at Costco and he loved being able to look around and kick his legs. It has made life so much easier to not deal with hauling in the infant seat or wrapping him up in his baby wrap. He looks so cute and people stop to say how handsome he is!


• He seems to have a bit of a temper starting to make its way out. When something doesn't go quite his way, he really lets us know. This happens a lot when he drops a favorite toy out of reach or if I try to burp him during feeding when he's not done eating.


• He survived his first cold and teething combo. He seems to be feeling much better now and the tooth is visible so I think that painful part is over (for that tooth, at least). I have, however, opened a can of worms by comforting him and nursing him at night because now he cries for us when I know his teeth don't hurt anymore. The second one of us picks him up, he falls right back to sleep. Last night was better, I only nursed him once (compared with three times over the past week). Oh well, I guess if I were a baby, I'd prefer to fall asleep with my mom or dad rocking me, too.


• He still hasn't rolled over since he did it on Superbowl Sunday. Weird.


• We plan to give him some avocado or banana this weekend to add to his food menu. Cereal was fabulous for a while, now he's realized that it's pretty boring and doesn't eat very much at all.


• We are starting swimming lessons on Tuesday. Just the thought of G in swimming trunks makes me smile.

I can't wait to see what his next 6 months are like. I'm sure he'll amaze us with how strong he becomes and how his personality continues to develop. We are so so lucky to have this little man in our lives. I just can't seem to hug and kiss him enough in a day... I'd better get it all in now, before we know it he'll be asking me to drop him off a block away from the mall :)

George wanted to wish everyone a happy St. Patty's Day!

Here are some pictures of G enjoying the addition of bath toys to his tub. I've been trying to take up more time with his baths since they seem to calm him down before bed. Unfortunately, George's teething combined with his first full-blown cold this past week. Sleeping has been so rough: his teeth hurt, then his stuffy nose or cough wakes him up when he finally does fall asleep. Poor guy! He seems to be better today, which makes me so happy because those coughs break my heart and I just want him to be able to blow that nose of his to get rid of all his snot!

We don't have any big plans for St. Patrick's Day, it is supposed to be another beautiful day here so I'm sure we'll be outside for as much as we can. Happy St. Pattty's Day to everyone, don't forget to wear your green!

My Teeth Hurt!!

The past two nights have been super-tough on poor George (not to mention his parents) with another tooth trying to make its way out. He has been sleeping through the night for a few months now, so we have been so spoiled! The last two nights he has woken up every few hours with hysterical crying and nothing seems to soothe him except nursing. I had hoped not to nurse him in the middle of the night anymore since I didn't want it to become a habit, but that has been his only comfort! Tylenol hasn't been working well enough, obviously, and I took him to the doctor today to make sure he didn't have an ear infection or something. She let us start Motrin IB, which is supposed to work better than Tylenol, so we'll see how tonight goes. Wish us luck!

The Big 3-0

It is hard to top last year's birthday when we announced my pregnancy, but this birthday has come pretty close! It has been a beautiful day again, about 75 degrees, so Sean, George, Leo and I all went to Wash Park for a nice long walk. We all enjoyed the perfect weather!
Even Leo got in on the fun...We celebrated with my parents yesterday since they were going to California today to help my sister move. My mom made me a cake and then we went out to dinner with Shane and Luke.Here's G showing off my awesome birthday present from my parents and Sean, a new stroller!!

Right now Sean is at the grocery store getting stuff to make me dinner tonight... it has been a great day! I am so happy to start my 30s with my boys, I'm such a lucky girl!

Swanson Babies

Today was another beautiful day here in Denver, and George and I got to spend it with my good friends Katy and Michelle. The three of us used to teach 4th grade together at Swanson Elementary until we started popping out babies! We took nice long walks out to lunch and to the park and talked about how glad we are that we all get to be home with our babies. Here are a few pictures of today:

Record High Temps... Let's Go to the Park!

Today I took George to Wash Park to try out the swings for the first time. It is incredibly warm in Denver today (over 70 degrees) so the park was the place to be. George was a little unsure of the swings at first, but once I scooted him up to the front, he was loving it!!

I also tried to take a picture of the tooth that caused so much grief last week. It's definitely out now and a sharp little booger, but hard to see in pictures still. If you really strain your eyes, you can see it on the bottom right:

It seems we're in a break now between teeth coming in because he's back to his old self. Boy, that was a rough few days for both of us!! It's a good thing he's so darn cute when he's screaming :)
